Amendments to “Renewable Energy Development Act” further lead Taiwan toward Net-Zero Emissions by 2050

Under the collaboration of the Legislative Yuan, administrative agencies, and various sectors, the amendments to the “Renewable Energy Development Act” was passed on the third reading on 5/29, further enhancing the development of renewable energy in Taiwan. This amendment is in response to international development trends and the proactive expectations of the general public regarding renewable energy development. It includes the addition of regulations for “solar photovoltaic installation in buildings” and a dedicated chapter for “geothermal energy,” establishing a favorable environment for diversified renewable energy development in Taiwan’s future. Additionally, it addresses offshore wind power, small hydropower, and biomass energy generation projects by removing site restrictions to maximize their diverse benefits. It also amends incentives for the installation of renewable energy in public buildings to demonstrate leadership and expands incentives for the thermal utilization of waste in renewable energy.
