In the global energy transition trend, Taiwan is accelerating the development of renewable energy. Currently, the highest percentage of renewable energy sources is represented by offshore wind power and solar photovoltaics, which are relatively mature technologies. However, geothermal power in Taiwan, with its abundant reserves, is considered a rising star in this field and has great development potential.

Taiwan relies on imports for 98% of its energy, making self-sufficiency and diversification crucial. Geothermal energy is part of the renewable energy landscape since it can provide continuous power 24 hours a day, serving as a stable and decentralized source of electricity, aligning with the concept of national energy security. According to Deputy Minister Zeng, with a target of reaching 200 megawatts by 2030, geothermal power generation can exceed offshore wind power by 1.8 to 2 times, making it a crucial element in Taiwan’s future renewable energy development. Therefore, the government has been collaborating with various organizations in recent years to mature geothermal power generation technology and promote its widespread use in Taiwan.

“TASS2023 Sustainable Taiwan Expo” will be held from November 22 to 24. This year’s exhibition focuses on the theme, “Solutions toward Net Zero” and includes three main forums: the “Taiwan Circular Economy Forum,” “ESG Solutions Forum,” and “Sustainable Procurement and Supply Forum (IFPSM).” This Expo aims to promote global trends in net-zero buildings, energy transition, and resource recycling. With the global goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, it connects and integrates downstream supply chains across various industries. Through exhibition, forums, and business exchange activities, the event focuses on Taiwan while looking at the global landscape, serving as one of Asia’s most influential sustainable exhibitions and ESG solution platforms.

Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Zeng Wensheng (曾文生), stated that by 2040, renewable energy generation, including offshore wind and solar power, could reach 170 billion kilowatt-hours.
